My first blog
Woo how exciting! My first ever blog!
I used to be addicted to posting, all those evenings spent on the PC typing away into the wee hours of the morning, during weeknights too! Now I have my own little space on cyberspace again for me to whinge about anything I like.
First whinge is my website. Or should I say my former website. Man, how annoying. I keep hold of www.keelaw.com for about 8 years (god how old do i feel!) and then as soon as I don't renew it, some law firm comes and buys it off me!! Why couldn't they pay me for it? So unfair....
Anyway, will rant more later. Time to go pester Vick's and Kim's blogs!

come again? What's the diff b/w them buying it off you and them paying you for it?!
when i pay for it, it's like i am paying rent, i.e. about 15 quid for 3 years.
whilst it is mine, if they wanted it, then they would have to pay me for the rights to it, i.e. loads of money!!
now that i have effectively given up the rights to it by not continuing with the rent, they are going to get the rights for free and just pay the tiny amount for rental.
You know you can automatically buy up domain names by "camping" on them (I'm not talking about your skills in CS either). You just go to a special domain name company and pay a fee and as soon as a lease is up it just grabs it. You could try it though I don't think you could last another 8 years ;p
that's pretty much what i did. sat on it for years and no-one wanted it, until the day i gave it up!
however i thought that there was a legal case in the US that set a precendent that prohibited such carpet bagging activities. unless you can prove that you are using that domain name for a legitimate purpose (i.e. its your name or the name of your business), you can't camp on it waiting for money. some guy tried it with madonna.com and was told by the courts to release it.
My ex-flatmate also tried it with a company name and was nearly taken to court. He was forced to hand it over for no moeny and wasted loads of his own time filling in forms and stuff.
